Johna (Gibbens) Platero passed away at her home on May 15, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Damon, her son Carlos Guerro and grandson Keyan. Also surviving are 3 step children: Eric and her husband Shawn Brown, Duane and Travis Platero. She has 3 surviving sisters: Lucille Cogdill, Valerie Ball, and Mary McCreery. There are many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews that loved and miss her.
She graduated from East Newton high school and continued her education with a Master’s in Social Work from Kansas University and then a Doctoral Law degree from University of Arkansas. She taught a Kearney University, then was a social worker in Tuscon, AZ. She, and her husband, Ken Reeves, ran a mission for women and children with AIDS. After the death of Ken, she married Damon on May 15, 2004. They moved to Page, AZ and she was a hospice social worker on the Navajo nation. Johna returned to Neosho where she enjoyed family, friends, her 2 adored dogs, Bible studies, book club, and gardening. She was a social worker at heart and was always looking for ways to improve the lives of those around her.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 24 at Abundant Life Church, located at 700 Spencer Drive in Neosho.
