Annual kids' fishing derby held last weekend at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery
The Annual Kids Fishing Derby was held at Neosho National Fish Hatchery on Friday, June 7th. The event is for children ages 7-12 and gives children a chance to connect with the outdoors. This year's theme was Keep Dragon in the Fish.
There were two fishing sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The unofficial count was approximately 300 in each session. The Hatchery staff along with “the Friends of the Hatchery", sponsor this community service event. Roderick May, Hatchery Manager, opened each session with a outline of rules and regulations. Fishing tackle and bait were provided and a picnic lunch was served. Each participant received a T-shirt. The caught fish were cleaned and iced for the children to take home.
