For Neosho residents, it's time for an update on city fireworks ordinances. Note that the dates for legally shooting fireworks in the city have changed since last year.

Under current Neosho ordinance, fireworks discharge is limited to July 1st - July 10th from 7 AM until 11 PM.  On the 4th of July only, fireworks may be discharged until midnight.  Sales of fireworks are June 20th - July5th from 7 AM until 10 PM.  Only 1.4G (aka Class C) fireworks are allowed for public use.  In the City of Neosho, bottle rockets are not allowed. Note that the Neosho Police Department has been responding to reports of fireworks and are enforcing the law.

Some safety tips provided by the Neosho Fire Department are:

Don't allow young children to ignite fireworks.  Supervise young children around fireworks, even with sparklers.

When lighting fireworks, don't lean over them or hold them.  Light the fuse, then quickly get away.

Don't use glass to discharge fireworks in.

Keep water available in case you do have a fire.

Don't aim fireworks at other people.

If fireworks don't go off, don't relight them.  Stay away from them and douse them with water.  In fact, all fireworks should be doused with water before discarding to avoid a trash fire.

Be courteous to neighbors when shooting off fireworks.

As for the legal sales of fireworks in the state of Missouri,

State of Missouri Fireworks Laws: Permitted: Consumer Fireworks in compliance with the regulations of the CPSC. Selling Period: June 20-July 10 and December 20-January 2. Age of Purchase: 14 years of age unless accompanied by an adult.Mar 3, 2019.

Have fun, be legal and stay safe this Fourth of July!
