Long-time Neosho Lions Club member Larry Swift received the Melvin Jones Fellowship, an award given to Lions Club International members through local club selection. To have Swift honored, the Neosho Lions Club donated $1,000 in his name.

Swift has been a Lions Club membersfor more than 40 years and during that time has held various board positions. The award, which makes Swift a Melvin Jones Fellow, was to honor him for his efforts working on the Club motto, "We Serve".

"Larry is a great example of Servant Leadership at work in our community," Sy Werner, fellow Lions Club member, said. "It is the highest award given for Lions Club members."

The Melvin Jones Fellowship is the backbone of the Lions Club International Foundation, which helps people around the world in times of disaster or special need. The fellowship is considered to be a tremendous contribution to humanity and to the legacy of Lions Club founder, Melvin Jones.

Jones, who owned a Chicago insurance agency, joined a networking club for businessmen called The Business Circle. Although active, Jones had a larger vision which led to his founding of the Lions Club International on June 7, 1917.m
