Imagine if there was a box and when someone needed something, just a small thing or two to bridge a gap, they could get it from that box - free.

It may sound too good to be true but thanks to a local Eagle Scout, it's a reality here in Neosho.

Dillan Russell, Neosho, is an Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop #34 in Neosho. For his Eagle Project, Dillan built a Blessing Box and located it at the United Methodist Church in downtown Neosho.

Blessing Boxes can be used to distribute any non-perishable item. This box has been stocked with items that include canned goods, school supplies, hygiene items and clothing.

The boxes are popping up across the country with one simple premise - give what you can and take what you need.

Dillan, 14, just began his freshman year at Neosho High School and has been involved in scouting for years.

An Eagle Scout project provides scouts with an opportunity to plan, develop and provide leadership to others. Each project is evaluated on the benefits to the organization or community being served and on the leadership the Eagle School provides.

Troop #35 meets at the Methodist Life Center in Neosho. As a troop, their focus is on learning new things and experiencing them first hand through camping and troop activities.

Since Dillan is an Eagle Scout, that steps up his game even more.

Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America.. Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process. The Eagle Scout rank has been earned by over 2.5 million youth. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges. The EagleScout must demonstrate Scout Spirit, an ideal attitude based upon the Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge to recognize the accomplishments of the Scout. Additional recognition can be earned through Eagle Palms, awarded for completing additional tenure, leadership, and merit badge requirements.

Dillan's Eagle Scout project Blessing Box is located in front of the United Methodist Church in downtown Neosho, at 224 South Wood Street.
