In the regular meeting on Tuesday, the Neosho City Council voted to approve a budget for fiscal year 2020 in the amount of $20,744,020. The anticipated revenues for the same total $20,592.574. The city plans no major building or infrastructure projects in the coming year.
The council also noted that sales tax revue is on the decline, down by 3.9% from fiscal year 2018.
As previous announced, the City of Neosho will present a use tax proposal on the November ballot. The use tax will provide for the addition of city sales tax on internet and out of state purchases. The 2020 budget, however, does not include passage of the tax.
The City of Neosho is also preparing for the annual Fall Festival, a city sponsored event. In addition to the city's activities, the Neosho Arts Council and the Newton County Historical Society will also participate. The fall festival will be held on Saturday, October 6 from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. and n Sunday, October 7 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The historic downtown square will have regional craft vendors, food trucks, family games, live music and more.
The next regular meeting of the Neosho City Council will be on Tuesday, October 1 at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the City Hall, located on the southeast corner of the Neosho Square.
