Marion ‘Edwin’ Cornell was born February 22, 1927 in Spring City, Missouri, one of nine children to Earl and Clara (Kleine) Cornell. He entered into rest on March 27, 2020 in Neosho, with his loving wife of 70 years and his family by his side at the age of 93. Edwin graduated from Seneca High School in 1945 and was a lifelong area resident. He worked at Empire for 40 years as a Meter Tester, retiring in 1989. In addition, he owned and operated Cornell Awning Shop. Edwin loved to fish and hunt with his sons and he loved to work. Following his retirement, he and Vera enjoyed many trips and traveling. He was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ and was a good Christian man. God richly blessed Edwin with his wife of 70 years, Vera Lou (Gensicke) whom he married on June 23, 1949 in Joplin; their two sons, Stephen Earl (Erma Lee) Cornell of Neosho and Danny Edwin (Barbara) Cornell of Columbia; five grandchildren, Ginger Watley, Heather Thomas, Stephanie Talley, Grant Cornell and Justin Cornell; ten grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition, Edwin and Vera have been blessed beyond measure by their church family and many friends. A family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 1 pm at the New Salem Cemetery, Danny Boggs will officiate. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Monday and Tuesday from 1 pm to 4 pm. Mandates from CDC and the State of Missouri have strongly advised against organized gatherings in order to abide by social distancing protocols. Family and friends are welcome to the funeral home for viewing, however, only ten people are allowed in our facility at one time.
