This weekend around our area will be busy, with festivities honoring July 4.
For more than 35 years, Granby has hosted its Old Mining Town Days (OMTD ) which starts today and continues until Sunday. (See preview story in today's edition). Another event will be Celebrate Neosho which will be held on Saturday. (A full preview story was in Tuesday's edition). Then on July 7, Seneca will host their celebration. There again, it will be a  busy one in our area.
I love supporting our area towns and their festivities. When I was growing up in Newtonia, Newtonia would not have a grand fireworks event - other than families getting together and holding their own fireworks display. So, we would venture to Granby for OMTD, usually to watch the fireworks. There is nothing like sitting underneath the stars, looking up and seeing the fireworks produce massive colors. Plus there is the music and the car show and the parade that are a hit. I have not only attended this event, but also covered it for the paper.
Moving on to Neosho's event, this fun-filled day will include everything from car show to kids games to airplane display and show to vendors to a fireworks display at the Neosho Airport. So, bring your lawn chairs or blankets and get ready for the day.
One of the best things that I enjoy in Seneca is the parade. Now, for a community to put on a parade is one thing, but for Seneca, the whole community comes out to either participate in the parade or look at the parade, waving as the parade participants go by and hoping that candy is thrown out.
If you have the chance, I highly recommend that you attend these events. There is something for everyone and it is very enjoyable.
the summer is moving by so fast. After we celebrate our freedom, soon there will be the fair season.
