AURORA — The East Newton Patriots dropped to 11-10 overall and 1-2 in the Big 8 Conference after falling 61-40 to Aurora on Tuesday night.

AURORA — The East Newton Patriots dropped to 11-10 overall and 1-2 in the Big 8 Conference after falling 61-40 to Aurora on Tuesday night.
While the Patriots played the host Houn’ Dawgs to a 29-26 in the middle quarters, Aurora outscored East Newton 32-14 in the first and fourth quarters. A 17-8 head start after one quarter, coupled with a 17-11 second quarter, gave the Houn’ Dawgs a 34-19 halftime advantage. Aurora lost three points off its lead in the third, but gained back nine in the fourth as East Newton entered foul mode.
Ethan Heilig led East Newton with 10 points and Thomas Cooper had nine and Jake Patterson five, while Josh Harris, Tyler Winsauer and Dalton Zimmerman each contributed four points.
The Patriots fell to 0-2 in conference road games and return home Friday night for a Big 8 game against McDonald County, who own a 16-5 overall record this season.
Logan Bader paced Aurora with 19 points and Devon Hilton had 14, then Austin Carmichael added nine and Josh Fronabarger eight.
