SPRINGFIELD — Former Neosho High and Crowder College standout Trey Turner continues to be ridiculous (in a good way) out of the Missouri State bullpen this season.
In his fifth relief outing of the season, Turner pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning during a 9-5 win Friday night over Memphis at Hammons Field.
Two of the three outs were strikeouts for No. 26, who’s also seen some action in a reserve outfielder capacity for the 13-4 Bears.
On the mound, Turner owns a 2-0 record (wins his first two appearances against Oral Roberts and Lipscomb) with a 0.84 ERA — one earned run (against Lipscomb) over 10 2/3 innings. He’s struck out 19 and walked a mere three.
Missouri State closed out a three-game home series against Memphis on Saturday and Sunday. The Bears host New Orleans on Tuesday.

Patton continues to be solid for Saint Louis
ST. LOUIS — On Wednesday, former Monett High and Crowder ace Aaron Patton earned his third win of the season in relief, as the Saint Louis Billikens topped the Western Illinois Leathernecks (got to love those school names) 7-6 at the Billiken Sports Center.
Patton earned the win by allowing no runs on three hits over 1 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking none. This was Patton’s seventh appearance of the season.
On the season, Patton owns a 3-0 record — tied for the team lead with starter Devin Mahoney — with a 2.84 ERA and he’s balanced 11 strikeouts against 14 walks.
Saint Louis owned a 14-2 overall record entering a weekend series against Butler.

Harris collects threes  all-around for Lyon
HANNIBAL — Three proved to be the magic number for former Crowder player and Lyon (Arkansas) junior Tucker Harris in a 15-5 win Friday over Hannibal-LaGrange (NAIA).
Harris went 3 for 5 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI.
Yes, three was the magic number for Harris.
After the day Friday, Harris bats .282 (24-85) with 18 runs scored, four doubles, two triples, two home runs and 17 RBI. He’s perfectly balanced between 12 strikeouts and 12 walks. Harris has stolen five bases and his percentages are .374 on-base and .447 slugging.
Lyon took a 17-9 record overall into Saturday’s doubleheader against Hannibal-LaGrange.

Whiting drops decision against Washburn
TOPEKA, Kan. — Not pitching collegiately in the 2016 season, undoubtedly it’s been a transition period for former Crowder and Texas A&M pitcher Cody Whiting this season for the Pittsburg State Gorillas (NCAA Division II).
Whiting dropped his fourth straight decision on Friday, all in his last four starts against Emporia State, Central Missouri, Missouri Western and Washburn, granted teams among the best in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and all of NCAA-II.
Whiting surrendered five runs (three earned) on two hits over three innings against the Ichabods of Washburn.
Overall this season, Whiting owns a 2-4 record with a 6.75 ERA and 36 strikeouts and 19 strikeouts over 32 innings. Whiting recorded 10 strikeouts balanced against two walks vs. Central Missouri, his best performance in strikeouts and second-best in fewest walks.
Pitt State closed out a three-game MIAA series against Washburn on Saturday and Sunday.
