DIAMOND — In a makeup game from an earlier rain-splattered date in the season, Purdy defeated Diamond 8-4 on Tuesday.
The visiting Eagles scored one run in the second, two in the third, three in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh on the strength of 12 hits.
Meanwhile, Diamond scored one in the first, two in the fifth and one in the seventh on eight hits.
Each team made three errors.
Mason Schallert and Andrew Martinez combined for half of Purdy’s six hits with three each. Martinez drove in a quarter of Purdy’s eight runs, scored half of the Eagles’ eight runs, hit a home run and doubled. Ricky Aldaba added two more hits for the Eagles.
Carter Prewitt led Diamond with two RBI.
Trey Bowman took the loss for the Wildcats and he struck out six over 6 1/3 innings.
J. Hughlett earned the win for the Eagles with two earned runs allowed over six innings of work.
Both teams came off big wins Monday — Diamond 20-5 over Golden City and Purdy 10-5 over Southwest. With the pitch count rules, smaller schools may have a more difficult time coping with more than two games in a week.
Diamond fell to 8-2 on the season and the Wildcats are slated to play Sarcoxie on Thursday, of course weather permitting.
