ELDON — The Neosho Wildcats set new two school records and qualified seven different athletes for the upcoming Class 4 state meet in Jefferson City at Class 4, Sectional 3 on Saturday.

ELDON — The Neosho Wildcats set new two school records and qualified seven different athletes for the upcoming Class 4 state meet in Jefferson City at Class 4, Sectional 3 on Saturday.
The Wildcats’ strength resided in their relay teams, three of which qualified for state and two of which broke school records.
The 4x100 of Nathan Lewis, Bryce Murphy, Jarvis Funk and James Renfro finished second with their school record time of 43.36 seconds. Carl Junction won at 42.32.
The 4x200 of Lewis, Murphy, Funk and Renfro also took second with their school record time of 1:29.36. Carl Junction won at 1:28.78.
The 4x400 of Lewis, Funk, Payton Klier and Murphy finished second with their best time of the year at 3:25.08. Carthage won at 3:22.22.
Isaac Johnston’s personal best in the shot put of 49 feet, 5 inches earned him third place and made him a state qualifier.
On the girls side, Mariah Welch leaped to a mark of 15-8 in the long jump, good for third place and a trip to state for the Neosho junior.
Other highlights included Lewis fifth in the 200 in 23.14 and Skyelar Long fifth in the girls shot put at 36-2.
McDonald County sophomore Zachary Woods provided the Mustangs their lone state qualifier with a fourth in the pole vault, as he cleared 12-6.

East Newton qualifies several for state
ELDON — The East Newton Lady Patriots, after winning both conference and district titles, finished seventh overall in the Class 3, Sectional 3 meet on Saturday.
Kinsey Sorrell proved a strong force for the Lady Patriots at both conference and district, and she proved to be strong again at sectionals Saturday.
Sorrell took second in the 800 in 2:23.89. Mountain Grove’s Katie Wolter won in 2:23.55.
Sorrell finished third in the 1,600 in 5:24.34. Fatima’s Brianna Halmer won in 5:23.82.
Kaitlyn Massey finished second in the 400 in 59.22. Fair Grove’s Madison Clark won in 58.95.
Massey also placed third in the 200 in 27.10. Clark won in 26.50.
The 4x400 of Jaylen Hayward, Kendra Hickman, Sorrell and Brytni Logan finished second in 4:14.89. Owensville won in 4:13.48.
The 4x800 of Hayward, Hickman, Logan and Kaylee Rader finished third in 10:13.34. Fatima won in 10:08.40.
Seneca’s Taylor Mailes finished second in the long jump at 16-2 1/2 and sophomore classmate Mekaylee Beard finished third in the javelin at 105-2.
On the boys side, East Newton’s 4x800 of Sam Hansen, Bryant Logan, Caleb Jackson and Blaine Carter finished third in 8:27.82. Springfield Catholic won in 8:23.68.
