CARTHAGE — The McDonald County Lady Mustangs’ early season woes continued Monday with a tough 5-4 loss to the Carthage Lady Tigers, a team the Mustangs just run-ruled two days before in the Joplin Tournament.
The Lady Mustangs hurt themselves with four errors — something that’s plagued the defending Class 4, District 12 champions so far during a 2-5 start to the season — and surrendered two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Two of the errors, of course, came in the dramatic seventh and both runners scored on Maddie Adams’ walk-off triple.
Maddie Colvin and Chloe Colvin drove in single runs for McDonald County and six different Lady Mustangs collected hits against Carthage pitcher Emily Calhoon — Cloee Helm, Kylie Helm, Whitney Kinser, Maddie Colvin, Kenzie Stephens, and Chloe Colvin. Kinser and Maddie Colvin doubled.
None of the runs scored against McDonald County freshman pitcher Alexa Hopkins were earned.
McDonald County opened Big 8 Conference play Thursday at Aurora.
