The Webb City Lady Cardinals bashed nine runs on eight hits in the top of the first and earned a 14-3 win Thursday over the Neosho Lady Wildcats in Central Ozark Conference Large play.

Webb City spoiled Neosho’s Senior Night, as the Lady Wildcats honored their four seniors Tori Frazier, Kaylee Johnson, Angelica Fallatt, and Olivia Rowe.

Mariah Newby led off the game against Neosho starter Kyla Daspit with a single, Renae Gilmore beat out a bunt single on the slightest bit of hesitation by Daspit, and Marieka Turpen worked a walk to load the bases with no outs.

That’s when Addie Darby connected with a pitch and drove it over the center field fence for a grand slam and a grand 4-0 start.

The Lady Cardinals pushed across five more runs with six more hits and a couple Neosho errors, as the Lady Wildcats finally worked their way out of the inning with freshman Brittany Winchester coming on in relief of Daspit.

Neosho came out swinging in the first inning itself against Webb City pitcher Amy Morris, scoring a pair of runs and collecting a pair of hits. Frazier worked a five-pitch leadoff walk and then Kaitlyn Hawkins and Taylor Baker hit back-to-back singles to load the bases.

Frazier scored on a wild pitch and Johnson brought home Hawkins on a fundamentally sound 4-3 groundout.

The game settled down into a groove, with Neosho’s one run in the fourth the only run scored from the second through the fifth innings.

Webb City pushed across five more runs in the sixth to force Neosho into scoring at least two runs in the bottom half of the sixth to keep the game alive. Neosho did not and the game was over.

Darby’s grand slam and a three-run home run in the sixth accounted for her seven RBI as well as her two hits and her two runs scored.

The Lady Cardinals hit three home runs and two doubles among their 12 hits.

Neosho seniors Johnson and Rowe drove in runs for the Lady Wildcats, while Frazier, Hawkins, Baker, Cheyenne Bates, and Rowe each had one of Neosho’s five hits. Bates doubled for Neosho’s lone extra base hit against a run of three Webb City pitchers.

Winchester allowed nine runs (five earned) on eight hits over six innings, striking out one and walking two. Daspit did not record any outs during her brief time in the circle.

Neosho dropped to 8-11 overall on the season and the Lady Wildcats return to action Monday with East Newton, Tuesday with Carthage, and then play Friday and Saturday in the Carthage Invitational.

Webb City improved to 18-3.
