GRANBY — The East Newton Lady Patriots edged the Neosho Lady Wildcats 6-5 on Monday night, scoring a run each in the fifth and the sixth to earn the lead and then Kinsey Sorrell’s outstanding play in center field helped the Lady Patriots hold on to the lead.

East Newton and Neosho were tied at 4 after two innings, since Neosho plated one in the first and three in the second before East Newton knotted it up with four in the bottom of the second.

Neosho scored one in the fourth to earn a 5-4 lead.

East Newton honored seniors Emily Mojica, Randi Werries, Brynne Smith, Jay Hayward, and Kinsey Sorrell.

Hayward led the Lady Patriots with three hits, three RBI, and one run scored. Werries collected two hits and a pair of RBI. Hayward and Mojica each doubled.

Natalie Oxendine earned the win, allowing five runs (one earned) on seven hits in six innings. She struck out two and walked none.

In the top of the seventh, Oxendine retired Neosho in order, as left fielder Brynne Smith caught the first out and Sorrell denied the Lady Wildcats hits and any chance of a rally with a pair of catches to end the game.
