MARSHALL — The Diamond Wildcats finished 30th in the 60-team The Battle at Valley this weekend on the campus of Missouri Valley.
Justin McGough (285 pounds) led Diamond in fourth place. He won his first four matches before losses in the semifinals and third place match. McGough pinned Trenton’s Jarvis Collis in 23 seconds, Lathrop’s Drake Chisam in 32 seconds, and Marceline’s Tyler Morris in 2:31, and won a 2-1 decision against Father Tolton Catholic’s Monroe Mills. McGough lost a tough 2-1 semifinal decision on an ultimate tiebreaker against Macon’s Jeffrey Smoot and then was pinned by Albany’s Blade Powers halfway through the second period.
Owen Gray (195) finished 11th, Triston Kralicek (113) 13th, Jayce Taylor (145) 15th, Austin Suhrie (126) 17th, Cameron Addington (138) 19th, and John Odom (132) 32nd.
Diamond brings in Carthage and Kansas schools Humboldt and Southeast for the first Diamond quad of the season.
