The Crowder Lady Roughriders swept Lyon College (Arkansas) in a pair of run-rule games Tuesday, 10-1 in five innings and 15-7 in six innings.
In the opener, Crowder plated two runs in the first, one in the second, two in each the third and fourth, and finally three in the fifth to earn the early victory.
Maggy Rieschick delivered the final blow with a two-run double, part of a four-hit and three-RBI performance for Crowder’s No. 2 hitter.
Makaila Leonhart, Kristen Wade, and Maddi Brown each had two hits for the Lady ‘Riders and four players combined for 10 of the team’s 13 hits.
Baylor Miles, Lexi McClellan, and Morgan Montgomery rounded out the other hits with singles.
Leonhart and Wade each drove in two runs, while Theresa Collins, Miles, and Kenzi Spurgin joined the RBI column.
Rieschick doubled and tripled, Leonhart and Wade each doubled twice, and Miles doubled.
Brown stole a pair of bases and Rieschick and Wade each had a steal.
Collins, Leonhart, and Spurgin each collected RBI with sacrifice flies.
Maddie Massanelli earned the win for Crowder, allowing one run (earned) on six hits over five innings and she balanced two strikeouts against one free pass.
In the nightcap, Crowder scored five runs in the second, four each in the fourth and fifth, and two in the sixth en route to that 15-7 victory, with three in both the second and fourth, as well as one in the fifth, scored by Lyon.
Kenzie Kallio and McClellan each led the 17-hit attack with three hits, while Leonhart, Miles, and former Neosho High standout Cloe Neece joined the multi-hit parade with two each. A.J. Downey, Wade, and Kai Redus each collected hits.
Of the team’s 17 hits, Crowder had 11 for extra bases. Redus homered, then the Lady ‘Riders had five triples and five doubles. Kallio tripled twice and Wade, Neece, and McClellan each collected three-baggers. Miles doubled twice and Downey, Rieschick, and Leonhart were not to be left out of a team with all nine different players with extra-base hits in one game.
Kallio drove in four runs, while Leonhart, Miles, and Redus each drove in two, and Rieschick, Wade, and Spurgin entered the RBI column.
McClellan stole three bases, while Rieschick and Leonhart each had steals.
Former East Newton standout Taylor Mathis earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits over two innings. She struck out one and walked none.
Emma Hill allowed three runs (three earned) on two hits over her inning of work.
Jessie Noftsger pitched a strong three innings, allowing one run (earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Crowder, 4-2 on the season, returned to action Thursday — weather permitting, of course — at home against Labette, a team coached by former Neosho High standout Ryan Phillips and featuring former Neosho and former McDonald County players in Emily Harrell and Paige Jones, respectively.
The Lady Cardinals were 0-2 on the season after 9-1 and 15-0 losses to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
