JOPLIN — The Crowder Roughriders used a five-run fourth and a four-run seventh to overcome the Mineral Area Cardinals by a 10-9 score Thursday night at Warren Turner Field.

Mineral Area once led 9-6 after scoring three runs in the second, one each in the fourth and sixth, and four in the fifth, but the Roughriders had just enough offense left in them for the comeback win.

Jack Jumper earned the win in relief, allowing one run (earned) on one hit over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Tyler Gregg picked up a two-inning save, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two and walking none.

Jumper and Gregg have been solid out of the Crowder bullpen all season.

With the help of both the offense and the bullpen, Crowder starter Zach Jackson remained unbeaten on the season — 7-0 — with the no-decision. Jackson allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Crowder touched Mineral Area starter Ryan Paschal for five earned runs and then scored five against reliever Parker Stidham but only two of them were earned runs. Paschal and Stidham both struggled at times with their control, combining for seven walks with Paschal walking five and striking out three.

Colten Nix led Crowder’s eight-hit attack with three and he scored three runs and drove in two from the No. 8 spot in the lineup. Kobe Morris, Tyler Duncan, Frielin Cabrera, Brinson Williams, and Samuel Chaput each had one hit to round out the hit parade.

Nix tripled and doubled, Chaput tripled, and Duncan, Nix, and Morris each doubled, taking advantage of the extra-base hit friendly confines of Warren Turner. Seventy-five percent of Crowder’s hits were good for extra bases.

Mineral Area’s Mitch Barrow led the Cardinals with three hits and three RBI, while Jake Pryor had two hits and four RBI from the No. 8 spot in the Mineral Area order.

Crowder improved to 25-7 and 12-1 Region 16 after the first game in a four-game series in Joplin ballparks.

This series was originally intended to be hosted by Mineral Area, based in Park Hills, a good 4 hours, 20 minutes from Warren Turner. That’s why the Cardinals are officially the home team.
