POPLAR BLUFF — The No. 11-ranked Crowder Roughriders opened their Region 16 series against Three Rivers with a resounding 15-3 win Saturday over the Raiders.

The 'Riders trailed Three Rivers 3-2 until they exploded for 13 runs in the top of the fifth. Crowder's had multiple 10-run innings this season.

Saturday's win pushed Crowder's record to 29-8 overall and 15-2 Region 16.

Zach Jackson pushed his unbeaten record to 8-0 on the season as he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings. He struck out two and walked one in the abbreviated contest.

Jackson's seasonal numbers include a 3.96 ERA, five complete games in nine starts, and 52 strikeouts and 11 walks over 52 1/3 innings.

Offensively, Samuel Chaput sparked the attack with two runs scored, two hits, and five RBI, and all five of his RBI came in the fifth with a grand slam his first trip and a RBI single in his second trip to the plate.

Frielin Cabrera led off the fifth with a first-pitch single, then Three Rivers starter Quentin Bowling hit Tyler Duncan with a pitch and walked Drew Reilly to load the bases, setting the stage for Chaput's big hit.

Other run-producing hits in the fifth included a Kobe Morris RBI single, a Cabrera RBI single, and a Quinn Cherry two-run triple, and it took three different Three Rivers pitchers to get out of the inning with an out for each pitcher.

Speaking of Cherry and triples, both of his hits Saturday were triples and produced three RBI. Meanwhile, Cabrera had three hits and three runs scored, Cooper King scored three runs, and the trio of Duncan, Reilly, and Chaput each scored two runs.

After 37 games, Crowder scored 350 runs and boasted a .328 team batting average, a .450 team on-base, and a .556 team slugging percentage.

Due to weather issues, Crowder and Three Rivers only played a single game — rather than a twinbill — Saturday and the teams will make up the fourth game of their series at a later date in April.
