DIAMOND — The Diamond Wildcats and the Liberal Bulldogs slugged it out in a Spring River Valley Conference dogfight Monday night.
Diamond scored three in the first for the early lead, but Liberal scored 15 runs over the last four innings to come away with a 15-10 win over the Wildcats in a wild one.
Liberal scored 15 runs on 17 hits, while Diamond scored 10 runs on 12 hits, as neither team was scrapped for offensive pyrotechnics.
Diamond senior Hunter Renfro led the Wildcats with three hits, two runs scored, and four RBI, highlighted by a home run and a double.
Trey Marbough added three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI, while Noah Hubbard had three hits and two runs scored. Marbough and Hubbard each hit doubles.
The trio of Renfro, Marbough, and Hubbard contributed nine hits (75 percent of Diamond’s total), six runs scored (60 percent), and five RBI (50 percent).
Meanwhile, Hunter Russow, Logan Brock, Ben Moreland, and Leighton Bridgewater each scored a run and Bridgewater, Christian Maturino, and Russow each rounded out the hits. Maturino had one of four Diamond two-baggers.
Brenden Ferguson took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings and he struck out four and walked two. Renfro allowed two runs (both earned) on four hits over 1 2/3 innings and he struck out one and walked none. Bridgewater allowed three runs (all earned) on three hits over his three innings of work and both struck out and walked none.
Jacob Dermott sparked Liberal’s attack with four hits, three runs scored, and three RBI, highlighted by one of three Liberal home runs and one of five Liberal doubles.
Colby Selvey and Sean Clark added homers, while Weston Sprinkle, Bryant Rose, Colton Slinker, and Bryan Rojo each doubled. Rojo and Ethan Daniels each had three hits, while Daniels and Selvey each drove in three runs.
Selvey earned the win, allowing six runs (all earned) on three hits over 2 2/3 innings of relief and he struck out six and walked five.
Diamond dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-4 SRVC.
