AURORA — It was a tough season opener for the Neosho Lady Wildcats during their dual Monday against Aurora.

Neosho fell 9-0 to their foe from the Big 8 Conference, but the Lady Wildcats threatened in one single match and two doubles matches.

In singles, No. 1 Emily Mitchell fell 8-3 to Sarah Woodall, No. 2 Sarah Werner lost 8-2 to Hannah Estes, No. 3 Julie Phillips fell 8-0 to Amber Gorman, No. 4 Michelle Lindsay lost 8-6 to Alexis Hoftiezer, No. 5 Morgan Brattin lost 8-3 to Lauren Sapiens, and No. 6 Rylee Marion lost 8-0 to Megan Gearheart.

In doubles, No. 1 Mitchell-Werner lost 8-5 to Woodall-Gorman, No. 2 Phillips-Lindsay lost 8-1 to Estes-Hoftiezer, and, in the closest match of the night for Neosho, No. 3 Brattain-Marion fell 9-7 to Sapiens-Gearheart.

Neosho, 0-1 overall, continued its three-dual road trip to start the season Tuesday against Republic and Thursday against Willard, playing their first two Central Ozark Conference duals.

Neosho then opens at home next Tuesday against Carl Junction and plays three straight home duals in as many days with Monett on Wednesday and Ozark on Thursday. Those duals will all have 4:30 p.m. starts from the Neosho Tennis Courts.
