JOPLIN — The East Newton Lady Patriots clicked in every phase of the game Monday and came away with a 12-2 run-rule win over the Joplin Lady Eagles.

Class 2 East Newton scored four runs in the second, one each in the third and one in the fifth, and six in the sixth, while Class 4 Joplin managed both of its runs in the sixth.

The Lady Patriots smacked 15 hits and seven different players crossed home plate.

Macy Bowman needed a triple for the cycle and her big day included two runs scored, four hits (including a home run and a double), and five RBI.

Katie Kester and Kenzie Massey also homered and Kaitlyn Hailey, Robin Hussong, and Natalie Oxendine all joined Bowman in collecting doubles.

Massey and Hussong combined for five more RBI (Massey three, Hussong two) and Makenna Brasier and Kester each drove in a run.

On the bases, Brasier had a pair of stolen bases and Kayla Higginbotham and Kester each picked up one.

East Newton senior pitcher Oxendine earned the win and she was sharp with eight strikeouts and no walks. She allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits over six innings. Oxendine finished with 65 pitches.

Defensively, East Newton committed no errors.

East Newton, 4-4 overall, was scheduled to return to action Tuesday with a Big 8 Conference clash against Aurora, but that game was rescheduled for October 1.
