HOLLISTER — McDonald County senior running back Oakley Roessler continued his early season success, scoring four touchdowns for the second week in a row, but the Hollister Tigers came away with a 35-28 Homecoming victory on a 67-yard touchdown pass in the final minute.

Roessler has been a force for the Mustangs this season against Marshfield, Logan-Rogersville, East Newton, and Hollister.

For example, Roessler scored McDonald County’s only points in a 41-7 loss to Marshfield on a 80-yard touchdown run.

Roessler came through with another 80-yard TD run against Hollister and this one gave the Mustangs a 28-all score with 2 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

Unfortunately, for the Mustangs, their defense could not come through with a stop and Hollister made the final big play.

McDonald County and Hollister exchanged scores all night.

The Mustangs dropped to 2-2 overall and they return home Friday for a Big 8 Conference West clash against Nevada, who improved to 1-3 after a 64-20 win over East Newton.

Both the Mustangs and the Tigers of Nevada have came through with a multitude of long scoring plays this season, but in mostly different styles.

The Mustangs have been scoring the vast majority of their points on Roessler scoring runs, highlighted by his 80-yard jaunts against Marshfield and Hollister.

The Tigers have been mixing it up with long touchdowns in both phases offensively, as well as defense and special teams.

McDonald County and Nevada each have one victory in Big 8 West play.
