DIAMOND — The Diamond Wildcats trailed their Southwest Conference rival Miller by a 49-6 halftime score en route to a 57-18 loss Friday night.

It’s not the Wildcats were deprived offensively, since they totaled just over 300 yards of total offense, but they could not keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard.

Miller put up 28 points in the first quarter.

Diamond scored one touchdown each in the last three quarters, and the Wildcats finished with 156 rushing and 146 passing yards.

Senior quarterback Sparky Bridgewater led the Wildcats with 145 yards passing and two scores on 8 of 15 passing. He rushed for 45 yards on 12 carries, highlighted by a long gain of 24 yards.

Senior receiver Colby Housh, Bridgewater’s favorite target this season, grabbed eight passes for 72 yards and one score. He rushed for 34 yards and one score on five carries.

Between performances against Ash Grove and Miller, Bridgewater and Housh have connected on 18 passes for 147 yards and one touchdown.

Chad Stephens rushed for 45 yards on six carries and Isaac Baird added 36 yards on four carries.

Hunter Shallenburger caught a pair of passes for 74 yards and one score.

Diamond, 1-3 overall and 1-2 SWC, continues its three-game homestand with a SWC clash against Marionville. The Comets stand at 2-2 overall after a 14-8 win over previously unbeaten Greenfield.
