ROLLA — The Neosho Lady Wildcats did not wait long to give new head coach Matt Hixson his first victory.

Neosho dispatched Eldon 48-29 Saturday in the Key Sport Tip-Off Classic hosted by Rolla High.

The Lady Wildcats got off on the good foot with a 19-4 first quarter and they never looked back the rest of the way.

Seven different Neosho players reached the scoring column in the first quarter with Olivia Hixson's eight points leading the way. She hit a pair of 3-point goals. Brylee King added another trifecta and the Lady Wildcats earned nearly half their first quarter total from trifectas.

Madison Flynn led the Lady Wildcats with 14 points and she did the majority of her damage in the second half and on the free throw line. Flynn scored nine points after halftime and finished 8 for 10 at the stripe. Her made field goals came second half.

Hixson finished with 13 points, nine on trifectas and the rest from 4-5 at the line.

Mary Dunbar finished with seven points.

A high point for Hixson would be the Lady Wildcats shot 17-25 (68 percent) on their free throws and made five 3-point goals.

Meanwhile, Eldon senior Haley Clifton led the Lady Mustangs with eight points. The Lady Mustangs played more competitively in the second and third quarters with 22 of their 29 points coming in those 16 minutes, but Neosho outscored Eldon 9-3 in the fourth. Eldon made only 4-16 free throws (25 percent).

Neosho, 1-0 overall, plays its home opener Monday night against Newton County rival Seneca, the Lady Wildcats' last game before Thanksgiving break.
