DIAMOND — The Diamond Wildcats opened their season with a 57-38 victory Tuesday night over McAuley Catholic in the second annual Diamond Classic.

The Wildcats scored 35 of their points in the second and third quarters, accumulating a 48-20 lead after three quarters.

Luke Lawson led Diamond with 13 points, Hunter Shallenburger added nine, Jake Frazier netted seven, and Austin Grube and Ben Moreland each tallied six. Overall, 10 different Diamond players reached the scoring column: Blake Savage added five points, Colby Housh four, Durham Mickey three, and Noah Hubbard and Corey Stephens two each.

Nathan Taylor and Thomas Black proved to be nearly all the offensive production for the Crusaders, Taylor scoring a game-high 15 points and Black adding 11 more points. The Warriors scored 18 of their points in the fourth quarter, nearly half their total for the game.

Diamond, 1-0, returned to action Thursday night against Galena.

In the other Diamond Classic contest on Tuesday, Crane defeated Thomas Jefferson 59-53, as the Pirates more than overcame a 20-11 deficit after one quarter.

Tyler Campbell and Isaiah Smith combined for 43 points to pace the Pirates, Campbell good for 22 and Smith 21 points.

Brock Conklin led Thomas Jefferson with 19 points and Aaron Wells and Dylan Dean-Heck contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Cavaliers.
