It had been 34 days and three games since the Crowder Lady Roughriders last entered the victory circle.

Crowder earned its first victory of the new calendar year with a 80-64 triumph Thursday night against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa at Bob Sneller Gymnasium.

The Lady 'Riders turned on their rocket-propelled jets in the second half, outscoring their foes from Tonkawa 54-32 after halftime and 34-20 in the fourth quarter.

The 34 points in the fourth marked a season-high quarter for the Lady 'Riders this season, easily besting Tuesday night's 26-point fourth against North Arkansas.

Crowder won for the first time when reaching 80 points, after losing two previous times.

Crowder improved to 6-11 overall and the Lady 'Riders are scheduled to return to action Tuesday on the road against North Central Missouri. Crowder's scheduled Region 16 opener Saturday against Mineral Area was scrapped due to inclement weather or at least the promise of inclement weather.

On Thursday night, Crowder sophomore Elle Williams scored a game-high 24 points and her first four games of the calendar year read 20 points against Redlands, 24 against St. Louis, 20 against North Arkansas, and 24 against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa. Entering Tuesday's contest against North Central, Williams owns a 15.4 scoring average, a number she's raised considerably in the new year.

Maia Wright played a solid 20 minutes for Crowder on Thursday: not only 18 points on 7 for 9 shooting from the field and 4-5 from the stripe, but three rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Additionally, she drew a couple offensive fouls on Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa early in the fourth, helping Crowder start to put some distance between themselves and the Lady Mavericks.

Alex Vogt finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Kourtney Shipley added nine points, four rebounds, and three assists with all her points coming from trifectas. Maegan Bandimere led the reserves with seven points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Crowder continued its hot shooting touch from Tuesday night against North Arkansas, hitting 9-18 (50 percent) from 3-point range Thursday against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa. Maybe it's a northernly thing.

Crowder made 11-22 (50 percent) from deep on Tuesday.

The last two shooting performances were a departure from games earlier in January, following a 1-11 (9.1 percent) effort against St. Louis and a 5-20 (25 percent) effort against Redlands to start the year.

Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa was not shy about bombing away Thursday, attempting 33 long-range shots but hitting only five with five players responsible for one make each. Nine different players attempted at least one three, with only Tatiana Jones not feeling the urge to bomb away from deep.

Jones led Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa with 16 points on 7-10 shooting, while Chelsea Rhoades and Hannah Maples each finished with 11 points. Rhoades grabbed seven rebounds (six offensive), while Carlee Murray grabbed 10 rebounds on a night when she netted no points.

Tuesday's foe North Central (remember Crowder's shooting performances against North Arkansas and Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa), coached by former Pittsburg State standout 3-point shooter Jenni (Miller) Croy, owns a 6-8 overall record and the Lady Pirates have dropped three straight contests.

Like Crowder, their Saturday game was postponed.
