DIAMOND — The Diamond Wildcats improved to 6-11 overall and 1-1 in Southwest Conference play with a 81-53 victory Friday night against Ash Grove.
Diamond generated 17 points in the first quarter, 22 in the second, 20 in the third, and 22 in the fourth and six players scored at least eight points.
Colby Housh led the Wildcats with 14 points and he knocked down three of the team’s eight 3-point shots with all three coming during that 22-point second quarter. Housh’s 11 points in the first half helped Diamond to a 39-23 halftime lead.
Luke Lawson added 13 points, the trio of Ben Moreland, Noah Hubbard, and Hunter Shallenburger each came through with nine points, and Jake Frazier had eight points.
Austin Grube added seven more points, Chad Stephens and Colton Long each had three, and Durham Mickey, Cam Smith, and Corey Stephens each had two points.
Nine different Wildcats scored in the fourth quarter.
Draven Ziglar led Ash Grove with 16 points and Sam Moreland and Cody Raney each had 12 points with Moreland’s points all coming on 3-point shots.
Only five Ash Grove (3-16) players reached the scoring column.
Diamond returns to action Tuesday on the road against Southwest Conference foe Lockwood, who are 5-13 this season with a 2-5 mark so far in January.
The Wildcats are seeking their first road victory this season, having lost their first six road games. Five of the team’s six victories have come at home.
