SENECA — The Diamond Lady Wildcats’ season came to an 6-19 end with a 72-26 loss Monday to top seed Mount Vernon in the Class 3, District 12 tournament.

Diamond lost to top seed Mount Vernon for the third consecutive season.

Diamond senior Lauryn Macy led the way for the Lady Wildcats with 12 points, highlighted by a pair of 3-point shots. Catalina Rangel and Lexy Bridges each scored four points and Madison Bentley, McKaley Greninger, and Grace Irwin each had two.

Mount Vernon’s four top scorers combined for 63 points — Cameron Call netted 22 points, Lacy Stokes added 17, Caitlin Hicks went for 14, and Lyndsey Hood added 10 more points. The Lady Mountaineers, especially Call and Stokes, generated most of their points inside the paint, often transition opportunities coming off Diamond turnovers.

Ellie Johnston had five points and Ashlyn McCanless and Michaela McChesney each scored two to round it out for the 23-4 Lady Mountaineers.

Mount Vernon — the two-time defending champions — returned to action Thursday night in the semifinals against El Dorado Springs (15-11), who defeated Lamar 71-61 on Monday.
