WASHBURN — The Diamond Lady Wildcats earned a 12-2 victory Friday in their season opener against Southwest.
Diamond plated four runs in the first and sixth innings, then plated four more with one in the second, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth. Southwest managed single runs in the first and sixth.
The Lady Wildcats collected 13 hits and held Southwest to a mere three.
Dayle Chasten, Madison Bentley, Lauryn Macy, Lexy Bridges, and Alyssa Wright each had big days for the Lady Wildcats.
Chasten collected four hits with a triple and a double (she only needed a home run for the cycle), scored three runs, and drove in four runs.
Bentley, in her first high school game, matched Chasten with four hits and produced two runs and one RBI. Bentley also doubled.
Macy did her work in the leadoff spot with three walks leading to three runs scored.
Bridges had a single and two RBI, while Wright collected two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI with her two hits highlighted by a two-bagger.
Hadyn Russow and Elle Hall rounded out Diamond’s hits with one each.
Bentley proved to have the stuff in the circle with two runs allowed (both earned) on three hits over six innings. She fanned 13 and walked one.
Maggie Robbins took the loss, allowing 12 runs (all earned) on 13 hits over 5 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Diamond returns to action Monday at home against Riverton (Kansas), a perennial state title contender in Kansas. Riverton, in fact, won state titles in 2016 and 2017.
