Crowder sophomore first baseman Colten Nix earned Region 16 offensive player of the week for his work last week against St. Louis and Jefferson.
Nix batted 9 for 18 (.500) with three home runs and seven RBI in six games against the Archers and the Vikings. Crowder finished 5-1 in those Region 16 games.
In the 8-7 victory Saturday against St. Louis, a win that completed a four-game sweep for the Roughriders, Nix came through with a home run and four RBI. Nix hit a sacrifice fly in the first and then a three-run homer in the second for a 6-0 lead.
Nix hit all three homers last week against St. Louis.
On the season, after 27 games, Nix owns a team-high .417 average (35-84) with 33 runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple, a team-high five homers, 24 RBI, 21 walks and 20 strikeouts, three stolen bases in four attempts, a .545 on-base percentage, and a .738 slugging percentage. Nix leads Crowder in not only hitting but on-base and slugging.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Benton (Arkansas) native hit .407 (59-145) during his freshman season with 59 runs scored, 17 doubles, three triples, seven homers, 44 RBI, 24 walks and 25 strikeouts, three stolen bases in three attempts, .500 on-base, and .710 slugging. That .710 slugging percentage led the team.
Nix originally committed to NCAA Division I Arkansas State out of high school and redshirted for the Red Wolves during the 2017 season.
Nix’s twin brother Chase also signed with Arkansas State and he’s in his junior season pitching for the Red Wolves. He’s appeared in five games out of the bullpen so far this season with 14 strikeouts and five walks over his first nine innings.
Former Crowder players currently on the Arkansas State roster include Nate Alberius, Tyler Duncan, Zach Jackson, Jack Jumper, Payton Lannon, Kyle MacDonald, and Casey Vaughan.
