JOPLIN — The Diamond Wildcats earned their fourth victory of the season with a 10-8 win Monday over College Heights.

Diamond plated seven runs in the fifth and single runs in the third, sixth, and seventh, overcoming College Heights’ three in the first, four in the fourth, and one in the sixth.

Austin Behler led Diamond with three hits and Hunter Shallenburger, Brodie Wilson, and Bryce Clevenger each had two. Wes Roughton, Landon Clemant, and Jake Frazier each rounded out the 12-hit attack with one each.

Behler picked up two RBI and Wilson, Clement, Leighton Bridgewater, Clevetnger, and Frazier each collected one RBI. Roughton and Shallenburger each scored two runs.

Bridgewater, Behler, Shallenburger, Clevenger, and Roughton each stole bases.

Shallenburger earned the victory and he allowed four runs (all earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks over two innings. Kyler Terry picked up the save with 1 2/3 scoreless innings and he allowed one hit with three strikeouts and one walk. Behler took a no-decision and he allowed four runs (all earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Diamond’s three pitchers combined for 166 pitches and College Heights’ four arms fired 153.

Diamond improved to 4-19 overall and the Wildcats return to action Friday in a Class 3, District 12 game against Newton County rival East Newton. The game will be played in Clever.

Diamond and East Newton were scheduled to play a game last week, but it was scrapped.

Diamond’s victory Monday ended an eight-game losing streak for the Wildcats.
