VERSAILLES — Seneca’s Caleb Garcia punched his ticket to the Class 2 state tournament with a third place finish at the Class 2, Sectional 2 Monday at the Rolling Hills Country Club.

Garcia carded a 8-over par 79 and finished three strokes behind overall winner Taylor Stone (Strafford) and two behind runner-up Curtis Wendler (Mount Vernon).

Dayton Fields finished 29th at 95, Keegan Hamilton 43rd at 106, and Eli Lawson 45th at 109.

Mark Schupp, a St. Louis man who has the goal of playing and reviewing every golf course in Missouri, had this to say about Rolling Hills: “[Rolling Hills] is a great course, located in Versailles — at the Lake of the Ozarks. I don’t think it will make the list of the top 5 public courses in the state but it is definitely one of my personal favorites. It is a beautiful rural Missouri course that is well maintained with a lush turf, particularly for a rural course. This course will provide quite a challenge to the average golfer and will provide a major test of skills for a lower handicap player.

“Many of the fairways are flanked by mature trees that narrow dramatically in spots. To score well, you will need to sculpt and shape your shots. There are major doglegs to the left which require a draw and doglegs to the right which require fades. Then you have greens tucked away behind a group of trees requiring positioning your ball in a 20 yards wide area. There are sand traps and a few lakes. The greens are small to medium round with a fairly significant slope.”

Garcia and the rest of the Class 2 state qualifiers take on the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Team results: California 344, Eldon 345, Mount Vernon 354, Strafford 358.

— Neosho’s Derrick Olsbo and Xander Woodward saw their season end Monday at the Class 4, Sectional 3 tournament at the Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin.

Olsbo shot a 15-over 86 to finish 32nd and Woodward finished 57th at 97.

Team results: Rock Bridge 296, Glendale 310, Joplin 322, Willard 328, Jefferson City 330, Lebanon 332, Nixa 347.
