To the victors belong the spoils and that’s certainly the case for the Crowder Roughriders, the Region 16 tournament champions.

Seven Crowder players earned all-Region 16 honors: sophomore pitcher Ross Carver, sophomore infielder Freilin Cabrera, and sophomore outfielder Michael Chrisman (first team); freshman pitcher Colin Brougham, sophomore pitcher Colten Weber, sophomore catcher Sam Chaput, and sophomore infielder Colten Nix (second team).

Carver owns a 8-1 record and a 3.63 ERA with one save, three complete games, and 109 strikeouts and 22 walks over 62 innings. In his most recent start, Carver pitched a gem in Crowder’s elimination game victory over Jefferson with two runs allowed (both earned) on five hits over nine innings; Carver struck out 13 and walked two, pitching ahead seemingly from the start.

Carver missed five weeks of the season.

In his first 56 games, Cabrera hit .395 (85 for 215) with 66 runs scored, 18 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 69 RBI, 17 walks and 19 strikeouts, and 32 stolen bases in 37 attempts. Cabrera collected 10 hits and drove in six runs in the Region 16 tournament.

Chrisman, one of a quartet to play in all of Crowder’s first 61 games, hit .320 (64-200) with 65 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, seven homers, 64 RBI, 40 walks and 18 strikeouts, and 12 steals in 13 attempts.

Brougham recorded eight saves and a 1.57 ERA in his first 16 appearances. He proved to have spot-on control, issuing only four walks over 23 innings. Brougham struck out nine batters for every walk with 36 strikeouts.

Weber enters the district tournament tied for the Crowder lead in victories with nine. He owns a 9-3 record and a 4.48 ERA with two saves, two complete games, and 98 strikeouts and 33 walks over 64 1/3 innings. Weber’s ninth victory came in the Region 16 championship game.

In his first 61 games, Chaput hit .304 (62-204) with 47 runs scored, 16 doubles, eight homers, 55 RBI, 42 walks and 52 strikeouts, and 13 steals in 14 attempts. Chaput played a lot in right field.

In his first 61 games, Nix hit .381 (74-194) with 68 runs scored, 19 doubles, two triples, eight homers, 48 RBI, 44 walks and 41 strikeouts, and eight steals in nine attempts. Region 16 also recognized Nix for his glove at first and named the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Arkansas native to the all-defensive team.

Sophomore second baseman Jorden Hussein joined Nix on the all-defensive team and made it an all-Crowder right side of the infield.

Additionally, Crowder head coach Travis Lallemand took Region 16 coach of the year honors and Mineral Area’s Liam Hicks earned player of the year.
