SENECA — Seneca back Jaxon Graham scored on a 52-yard run with 6 minutes, 56 seconds remaining in the first half.
That score gave the Indians a 20-0 lead over the Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish at Tom Hodge Field at Earl Campbell Field.
The Indians, though, would only score six more points the final 29 minutes of football and Springfield Catholic earned a 41-26 victory.
Lance Stephens’ quarterback keeper with 4:19 left in the third produced the only points for Seneca after building that big lead.
By the end of the third quarter, Springfield Catholic had the lead and never looked back.
Seneca’s first two scores came in the form of a Trey Wilson 25-yard touchdown run and a touchdown pass from Stephens to Daythen Long.
The Fighting Irish scored 20 unanswered points for a tie score early in the second half and then Stephens’ score gave the Indians their final lead.
Making his first start behind center, coming after last season’s Big 8 East offensive player of the year Tyson Riley, Springfield Catholic signal caller Will Squibb delivered 214 yards and two touchdowns passing and 44 yards and two more scores rushing.
Seneca, 0-1 overall, returns to action in Week 2 on the road against Big 8 East foe Reeds Spring. The Wolves howled to the tune of a 61-6 victory in their opener against Nevada.
The Indians do not return home until a Week 4 battle against state-ranked and defending Big 8 West champion Cassville.
