A day after returning to the NJCAA Division I national rankings, No. 19 Crowder took a 2-1 loss Tuesday against rival Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at Roughrider Soccer Field.

Crowder trailed 1-0 for 46 minutes until a Danny Maldonado goal (assist by Alejandro Balderas) in the 85th minute earned a tie score.

Unfortunately, for the Roughriders, NEO’s Alex Frances broke away from the pack and put the game-winning goal past Crowder goalkeeper Anthony Garcia with all of 39 seconds remaining in regulation. Jayden Perry recorded the assist.

The ‘Riders made one last desperate charge for an equalizer, but time ran out on the home team.

Crowder, 8-3 overall, lost for the second time in a row at home and the ‘Riders scored one goal in each loss, 4-1 against nationally-ranked Jefferson in the first loss. Both Jefferson and NEO took more shots on goal than Crowder.

In between home losses, Crowder went out on the road and defeated Region 16 opponent State Fair 2-0 in Sedalia.

The ‘Riders scored a goal in each half against the Roadrunners: Maldonado, with an assist from Balderas, put Crowder on the board in the 23rd minute and Daniel Doherty’s solo goal in the 83rd minute closed out the scoring and provided some needed insurance.

Garcia finished with five saves for the shutout, Crowder’s fourth of the season.

Crowder returns to action Friday at home against East Central, of course weather permitting, and this Region 16 opponent stands at 4-4-2 on the season.

East Central is the second in a series of four straight home matches for Crowder, with St. Charles on Sunday and Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday coming down the pike.
