Statewide, Missouri fell just short of the record number of Coronavirus cases in one day. The state reported 547 new cases to reach a total statewide of 22,830. The daily record for new cases, set last week, is 553.

The state counted four new deaths to reach 1,026.

In Newton County, the number released late today by the Newton County Health Department was 540 lab confirmed cases. There are 471 total quarantined cases with 395 cases currently in isolation and four hospitalized.

Newton County is seeing an increase in daily cases as is other surrounding counties.  We have cases throughout the county with the majority of the cases being within the city limits of Neosho.

Avoid large group gatherings, especially if you are at high risk for severe disease.  If you are in public, please practice social distancing and please wear facial coverings such as a mask or bandana.  DO NOT leave your house if you are sick, unless your seeking medical attention.  Remember that symptoms can range from mild/moderate to severe.  Even with mild symptoms, you can still pass the virus to someone else who can become very ill.  We must all practice personal responsibility to keep each other safe.  Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, do not touch your mouth, eyes, or nose.  Please wash your hands frequently.

The Newton County Health Department is working with Missouri Department of Health investigating each case to determine any close contacts.  If you are ill, you will be told to isolate and if you are named as a close contact, you will be told to quarantine for 14 days past last exposure.  We must all work together to keep each safe and healthy.
