Sharing a recipe from Jesse James' mom
This is out of the ordinary for me, but I recently ran across a recipe courtesy of the Jesse James Birthplace History Museum in Kearney, Clay County, Mo.
The recipe is for blackberry cobbler, my favorite dessert, and it comes from Jesse James’ mother, Zerelda. The Jesse James Birthplace Museum has the original recipe, I presume, and recently shared a transcribed copy of it online. I thought I’d pass it on to you all.

Zerelda’s Blackberry Cobbler
1 cup flour
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter or lard
2 1/2 cups blackberries
1 cup sugar
Mix flour, baking powder, salt and milk in ungreased 8-inch cast iron skillet. Stir in butter ‘til blended. Mix blackberries and sugar and let stand 30 minutes. Spoon over batter. Bake in 375 degree oven for 45-55 minutes or until dough rises and is golden. Serve with fresh cream.
