A group of eighth-graders from Clarke Middle School were not at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., today, where a gunman opened fire.

At least one Lexington parent heard from his daughter on the trip, who said they were not at the museum today though a visit was planned for some point.

School Principal Steve Flynn sent a message to all eighth-grade parents this afternoon, saying the planned 3:30 p.m. trip to the museum had been canceled.

The Washington Post is reporting a security guard and the gunman were both shot.
